Where to stay in Paris - Le Marais
Le Marais

This is a historic and lively neighborhood located in the 3rd and 4th arrondissements of Paris. With its charming cobblestone streets, historical architecture, chic boutiques, and vibrant atmosphere, Le Marais is one of best areas to stay in Paris first time.

You will find the Musée Picasso, Notre-Dame de Paris, and Place des Vosges in the area. It’s also within walking distance along the Seine or a short metro ride to Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Louvre Museum. The area around Rue des Rosiers is particularly famous for its delicious falafel and colorful food scene. Head to Rue des Francs-Bourgeois for chic boutiques, art galleries, and trendy shops.

Perhaps, the only negative thing about staying in Le Marais is that it can be busy and pricey as it’s such a popular place.

Recommended Things to Do in Le Marais

  • Musée Picasso: Explore the extensive collection of works by Pablo Picasso in the beautiful Hôtel Salé, one of the finest mansions in Paris. The museum has over 5,000 works of art by Picasso. If you’re really into Picasso, consider a private guided tour.

The interior boasts vaulted ceilings, sculptures, and a world-famous organ. Unfortunately, a tragic fire in 2019 damaged the building and it is currently closed (scheduled to reopen in December 2024). But, you can learn more about the cathedral and the fire by joining an outdoor walking tour.

Arc de Triomphe / Champs-Élysées

I only recommend staying in 8th arrondissement if you’re planning to do high-end shopping in Champs-Élysées as the area gets too busy. But it’s home to some excellent hotels and attractions.
