Palazzo Manfredi
Without a doubt, Palazzo Manfredi is the place to stay if you want to get the best view of the Colosseum from your room, while relaxing in a bath, or while enjoying breakfast or dinner on the terrace. At Palazzo Manfredi, you can almost touch the Colosseum (yes, I’m exaggerating 😀) and you can almost hear gladiators crossing swords (and again 😀). But you can really feel the history around you as the property is just across a street from the Colosseum. As the hotel is so close to the Colosseum, it’s very convenient if you’re planning to visit the Colosseum at night which I strongly recommend for less crowds and more spectacular view.
The rooms and suites are equipped with luxurious modern amenities with classic Italian style. Almost all rooms come with a view of the Colosseum. But for the better view, ask for a Grand View Suite which offers floor-to-ceiling windows and a balcony overlooking the Colosseum. Family suites are also available if you’re traveling with kids. Palazzo Manfredi also features an excellent restaurant, offering traditional Italian with an extensive wine selection. Enjoy dining al fresco on the terrace while enjoying views of the Colosseum illuminated against the night sky. Even if you’re not staying, it’s worth a visit for the taste and the view.

Mercure Roma Centro Colosseo
Mercure Roma Centro Colosseo is also a good choice if the location and the view are important factors. Just a couple of minutes walk from Palazzo Manfredi, close to Domus Aurea, this hotel also offers an upscale experience with clean and contemporary decor.
One of the highlights of this hotel is the panoramic terrace with outdoor pool and roof bar (seasonal). As far as I know this is the only hotel where we can enjoy the view of the Colosseum while swimming. Note, not all rooms have a view of the Colosseum, so make sure to ask for a room with a view if this is important. You can get breakfast and light snack at their bar/lounge area, but there is no full-service restaurant, if you want to have a full meal. But there are plenty of restaurants in the area. I had a very good pizza at Li Rioni, a casual authentic Roman thin-crust pizzeria. Very good price too. Highly recommended. All in all, Mercure Roma Centro Colosseo is a good choice if you want a slightly more casual place than Palazzo Manfredi, yet would like to stay in a hotel with a view of the Colosseum.

Santi Quattro al Colosseo
This is a Bed & Breakfast hotel near the Colosseum. There are three types of rooms – Classic, Deluxe, and Apartment. All rooms are spacious and an apartment comes with a kitchen and dining area. The balconies offer a view of Celio neighborhood and the Colosseum. Rooms are clean and perfectly adequate although nothing special. It offers good value for money. It’s ideal if you’re planning to stay for a longer period or traveling with family.
Hotel Capo d’Africa
Hotel Capo d’Africa is one of the best mid-range hotels near the Colosseum. It offers the usual amenities such as air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and minibars in modern and stylish rooms. Connecting rooms for families can accomodate 4 people. Rooms are peacefully decorated and a gym is also available. You can enjoy breakfast or dinner in the rooftop terrace while enjoying the view of the Colosseum. It’s a charming friendly hotel, a solid choice near the Colosseum.
Palm Suite
A member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Palm Suite is a luxurious accommodation located near the Roman Forum and the Colosseum. The hotel is elegantly furnished with stylish decor and artistic interiors, kind of exotic too. It’s unique and funky yet very comfortable and relaxing. I almost failed to go out as it’s so homey. Be aware that this is a sister hotel to Palazzo Manfredi, and it’s a condo-style. You can use all facilities at Palazzo Manfredi which is only a couple of blocks away. I really loved this place. Ideal for couples seeking a unique stay while being close to many attractions.
